Jane Siberry - The Speckless Sky

I'll admit that I was drawn and sort of repelled by "Mimi on the Beach" when it first showed up on MuchMusic back in 1984 ... however, like the Borg were so fond of saying, "Resistance is futile." The song grew on me, but it wouldn't be until after I bought The Speckless Sky , based on the irresistible strength of "One More Colour" that I started to consider myself a fan. "One More Colour" may have been a hit in terms of cracking the top 40 here at home, but it should have been huge .  This was the album that made me a fan. Shortly after I went and bought No Borders Here . I kept up with her releases for many years. I still consider myself a fan but times change and I didn't (still don't) have the necessary budget to buy everything that I want. Streaming is fun but having the whole world at your fingertips does sort of take the shine off things a little. Weird. Regardless, with The Speckless Sky , Jane was back with her band, Al C...

Stan Meissner - Windows to Light

The first time I heard "One Chance" I was blown away. There was something about the song that caught me right in the feels. It's strange, despite all of the music I've been exposed to over the years, the number of songs that have truly gotten under my skin is relatively small. Top of mind at the moment I'll list a few, because we all like lists. "Shooz" by Styx, yeah I played it to the point where I can't really hear it anymore. "Special Girl" by Eddie Schwartz "Why Should the Devil Have all the Good Music" by Larry Norman "Might as Well be on Mars" by The Pukka Orchestra "Roller" by April Wine Of course as I start writing things down my brain starts adding more and more, "What about this one?" So maybe the list is a little longer than I thought. Let's just say "One Chance" was in the right place at the right time. Objectively I can tell you that this is not the best song ever recorded, ...

Jane Siberry - No Borders Here

When MuchMusic launched in 1984 it was a weird and wonderful time. More often than not you just got to see what you were hearing on the radio, and the videos would run the gamut from rock to pop and then that first odd bunch of video jockeys would share some banter and introduce the next song with more witty banter. Rinse and repeat. Every so often though there'd be something weird and wonderful you didn't get to hear on the radio. "Fish Heads" was one of those. Dang, I didn't mean to open that can of worms ... now I'm singing it in my head, "Fish heads, fish heads roly-poly fish heads, eat them up, yum." If you know what I'm talking about, good luck getting that out of your head. You're welcome. Fudge, this has messed with my continuity ... Where was I before I went off into the weeds? Right, videos that weren't on the radio. Aside from the unnamed song about the aquatic swimmy thing's eyeball holder there was a strange and quirky so...
