The Biz - A Matter of Time

An unusual score, and one I had no idea what I was getting. I was expecting campy prog, but then again I'm not always right when judging a book by its cover. For all I knew this could have been space disco ... happened to me before. So how I did I find this thing? Let me tell you. Several months ago I was farting around looking through the online catalogue of one of the shops I like to visit, and was just seeing what was "still sealed" and if there were any deals to be had. Sadly, there are always deals to be had. One of the records I saw was this rather goofy looking album. It was a little pricey for me ... meaning it was over ten bucks, but it was intriguing. So I figured what was the harm? At best I've got a fun album that seems to be a bit of a lost treasure, as worst I'm out a few bucks but I still have a pretty cool time capsule. Besides it was still sealed and to be the one to crack it open after over forty years was too good to pass up. So I bought, cracke...

Everest - Everest

I was farting around meanderbrowsing (it's a real thing) through one of the record stores I occasionally shop. It's a treasure trove of stuff, but can be a tad overwhelming and while not disorganized it's all over the place. I've found more than a few awesome nuggets and the proprietor is an odd duck, at times in the best way, and other times it's overwhelming when I just want to quietly browse. However, he's a treasure trove of knowledge and his ability to retain an astounding amount of absolutely useless trivia makes me look like a moron. Something I can honestly do all on my own without help - but that's beside the point. Generally when I'm there I have a specific item I've got a hankering to find. Chances are pretty decent he has it, or knows about it. This is also the same guy that put me onto Hair Cut One Hundred (better than I expected), and the Karroll Brothers - which was a wicked score. We've also lamented poor Jim Clench's bad luck...

The Souther = Hillman = Furay Band (The SFH Band) - Trouble in Paradise

Sometimes the anticipation and mystery of the unknown are greater than the reality once revealed.  I found this album the same day I found the debut album by The Karroll Brothers, and at this time I mentioned I was pretty stoked about find this particular album. That Karroll Brothers album was a wonderful surprise - this one was a surprise too, but for different reasons. Let's get a couple of things out of the way right up front. I'm a casual J.D. Souther fan, and I have a couple of his albums and aside from his "hit" "Only the Lonely" they were rather forgettable. However his contribution to the 1988 movie Permanent Record (where I  became a fan of Keanu Reeves) "Wishing on Another Lucky Star" is one of the finest pop songs EVER written. So for that alone, I consider myself a fan. Chris Hillman is another guy who I know more of, than I actually know of . I do have one of his albums, that was enjoyable, but can't actually remember any of the ...

Karroll Brothers - Karroll Brothers

I am going to try and mostly write this one in real time. "Mostly" because I think the songs will go by faster than my brain can process the music, but I'll try to see what my gut says as I spin the album. First, a preamble of sorts, because every good story (even the bad ones) starts with an introduction. I'm hoping this is more like how the Hobbit fit with the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and not how the prequel Star Wars movies were fitted into the franchise. Dang, I can see this has already gone off ... I can fix this, hang on. Let's start at the beginning - I'm at the other record store I like to go to the other day and entering the shop often makes me feel a little bit like King Arthur trying to cross the bridge by answering a series of questions. After a preamble that thankfully didn't involve coconuts and wind speed I'm in and it turned out to be a banner day. I had been listening to T-Bone Burnett and I got a hankering to see if I could find any...
